For geologists and fossil-hunters, in particular, Fowlmead offers a “unique and precious site” revealing a glimpse of life on earth 310 million years ago before dinosaurs walked the earth. Among the features at the park is a fossil-collecting site, which has been preserved for enthusiasts to see evidence of fossil plants from the Carboniferous period, when the region was part of a vast landmass stretching from America to Asia.
